Tennis star Leylah Fernandez recently took to social media to share a heartwarming message for her father, Jorge, as the elder Fernandez celebrated his birthday.

Although Leylah Fernandez is in the city of Madrid for the 2024 Madrid Open, the Canadian took some time away from her preparations to wish her dad a happy birthday. The 21-year old is yet to win a match on clay this season, and will face Anastasia Potapova in the second round after a first round bye.

The 2021 US Open runner-up penned a heartfelt message to her father on Instagram. Previously she had spoken on how they managed to maintain a strong familial relationship despite him being her coach on tour. In her birthday note, she thanked him for his belief in her abilities, and acknowledged the role he played in her rise on the WTA circuit.
